Bhoomi Poojan

How to Perform Bhoomi Poojan?

Bhumi Pujan is the practise of offering prayers to Mother Earth, and other natural elements before beginning construction or land tilling activities for agricultural purposes. The foundation stone is also laid during Bhumi Pujan. Before drilling, digging, or tilling land, the approval of Mother Earth and the Gods is sought, and the endeavour begins with the symbolic placing of the foundation stone.

Bhumi Pujan is also performed to ask forgiveness from underground dwelling entities. They may be harmed unintentionally during building work, or they may be displaced as a result of it.

 Bhumi Pujan Vidhi

Detailed Vidhi may vary from one place to the next. The following steps, however, are more or less included in the rites.

Bhumi Pujan location must be determined, and it must be cleaned in morning after a bath. Gangajal should only be used for washing and purification.

Ceremonies must be performed by a skilled priest, as they will necessitate his competence and command of mantras. A priest's presence is also required to remove Vastu dosha and negative energies that could cause problems during building.

Priest normally looks north, and the person in charge of the puja usually faces east.

Bhumi Pujan, like any other puja, begins with prayers to Lord Ganesha, who is known as Vighnaharta, or Obstacle Remover. To avoid any obstacles that would obstruct the project's progress, Lord Ganesha's blessings are sought.

A lamp made of oil or ghee is lit.

An idol of the snake god and a Kalash are worshipped after asking Lord Ganesha's blessings.

It is stated that by seeking the blessings of the serpent God (who resides in Patala Loka), one can please him and obtain his permission to commence construction.

Water, milk, curd, ghee, and honey are added to the Kalash and worshipped as offerings to the Snake God in some religions. A Kalash loaded with water, mango leaves, and a coconut on its neck is venerated in different traditions. Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of Prosperity, is represented in this way.

(A tiny section of the ground is dug to lay the foundation stone or brick.)

Flowers, akshat (raw rice mixed with turmeric), turmeric, sandalwood paste, vermillion, incense sticks, kalava (holy thread), fruits, paan, supari, sweets, and other offerings are made in a specific order while sacred mantras and hymns are spoken.
